Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Central America, Guatemala, early 20th century CE. A pair of wooden slingshots, both hand-carved in animorphic forms. The first example assumes the form of a perching bird with a grand crest of intricately delinated feathers, inlaid red shell or stone eyes, and generous remains of blue, red, and green pigments on the surface. Next, is an endearing squirrel holding a nut in his front paws, his form boasting wonderful details including an incised, furry tail, inlaid iridescent stone eyes, and a meticulously incised base presenting linear and star-like motifs. Elaborately carved slingshots (ondillas) are a common theme of Guatemalan folk art from this time period. Custom stand. Size: larger slingshot measures 1.75" W x 5.25" H (4.4 cm x 13.3 cm)
Provenance: Ex-private New Mexico collection
