Egypt, Naqada Culture, pre-Dynastic, ca. 4400 to 3500 BCE. A beautiful redware jar of rounded, almost amphora-like form with a curved base and a slightly rolled rim. Two applied strips form the handles high up on the body. The surface is a rich, burnished red. This culture inhabited ancient Egypt in the pre-Dynastic period, and was first described by famous archaeologist William Flinders Petrie, but relatively little is known about them except that they were focused around the site of El-Amra in central Egypt, west of the Nile. Size: 2.4" W x 4.45" H (6.1 cm x 11.3 cm)
