Description
Roman Empire, Trajan, Rome, 98 CE to 117 CE. OBVERSE: Laureate bust of Trajan to right. REVERSE: Pietas, veiled, standing left by altar, holding patera and scepter, PIET below. RIC 104. Size: 3.18 grams, 17 mm.

The Emperor Trajan had many accomplishments during his reign. Perhaps it is the triumphal column in Rome's center, that bears his name, that is best remembered. The column which was completed in 113 CE is located in Trajan's Forum and is just to the north of the Roman Forum. It is a magnificent free standing column with beautiful spiral bas relief that describes the epic wars between the Romans and Dacians.
