Description
Roman Empire, Trajan, Rome, 98 to 117 CE, struck 114 CE to 116 CE. OBVERSE: Laureate bust of Trajan facing right. REVERSE: Felicitas standing left, holding caduceus and cornucopia, S C to either side, inscription around. Compare RIC 672. Size: 25.67 grams, 31 mm.

Trajan ruled the Roman Empire from 98 CE to 117 CE and was officially declared by the Senate optimus princeps or "the best ruler". He is remembered as a successful soldier and emperor who presided over the greatest military expansion in Roman history, leading the empire to attain its maximum territorial extent by the time of his death. Trajan also played a key philanthropic rule, overseeing extensive public building programs and implementing social welfare policies.
