Item Details
Description
A mid Qing Dynasty blue-&-white incense burner. This cylindrical incense burner is decorated with dragons gliding among clouds and chasing the pearl of wisdom, with five claws wide open, trying to seize something, and wide open mouths. These dragons are typical motif of mid-to-late Qing period. The central theme of the decoration is the entrance gate of “Kwun Ming Yong Tong Temple”, with side panel stating “the fire in the gold cense burner has never quenched over a thousand year”, and “the jade cup houses the ever bright flame over ten thousand years”. The outer base is unglazed revealing a hard and fine clay body. The fine glaze and the neat and meticulously painted boarder band of the ‘whee wen” (or “Lei Wen”) indicate that this burner was intended as premium porcelain. (Dr. Robert I-San Lin Collection 3580, brought to California in 1960s). 4"x4.5"
