Description
The Emmaline Collection. Doll, Tintype, Blanket, Glassware. c. 1850's. Handmade dolls for the Montgomery children. Boy doll, believed to have been made by Emmaline prior to emancipation has a cloth head, hand knitted clothes, leather shoes. The Mammy Doll is dressed partly in buttons and materials from Emmaline's clothes and was created after leaving the plantation. Largest is 19"h. Handmade blanket and Glassware from Montgomery Plantation. Tintype is 2.5"w x 3.25"h, was taken around 1882. Emmaline was purchased in 1841 in New Orleans, LA around the age of 14 by William T. Montgomery owner of a large plantation in Bolivar County, MO. Emmaline was a wedding present for Mr. Montgomery's 16 year old bride, Caroline Nancy Ballou. Emmaline nursed 14 Montgomery children who later cared for her in her old age until her death in 1936 (around 109 years old).
