Civil War Pvt. William H. Everson Medal. Hand-stamped metal or silver. 1 3/8" x 1 3/8". Size with frame is 19" w x 23"h. Everson, a free black and a member of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry. Everson at age 19 joined the Union Army at Albany, NY. He was one of thousands of African American Volunteers in the Union Army. He served with the Mass. U.S. Colored Troops, company E, (Record verified at U.S. National Archive) in 1863, saw action at Fort Wagner, James Island, Darien and Olustee. Battle depicted here is The Attack On Fort Wagner.
