This lot consists of an Original Oil on Canvas Signed 'Gustav Klimt', done in the abstract style of Austrian born painter Gustav Klimt (1862 - 1918). A stunning and transformative Art Nouveau influenced depiction of the seduction of Danae - mother of Perseus - by Zeus, portrayed here as an all encompassing rain. The eroticism of the encounter depicted in her face and amplified by the tense articulation of her fingers. Klimt was a founder of the Viennese Secessionist movement, and his later period works are among the most highly regard and highly priced in the world. His willingness to express eroticism led to his art being excoriated during his lifetime, and forgotten for much of the 20th century. He is now considered one of the most accomplished and visionary artists of the gilded era. He died tragically at the height of his skill from the Influenza epidemic in 1918.
