Description
Europe, probably northern, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A collection of six wood panels carved in relief, the scense set in integral frames, each showing a scene from the Biblical story of Joseph. The carving is fine, with atmospheric/aerial perspective, nice details, and richly depicted backgrounds. One shows the seduction of Joseph by Potiphar's wife, a common artistic motif in Europe from the Renaissance onward. Others show the story of Joseph and his brothers in Egypt, Joseph's position as a slave and rise to power. Every time you look at these panels, you will notice a new detail! Size of each panel: 10.75" W x 6.75" H (27.3 cm x 17.1 cm)
