Gerardus Vossius (1577-1649) was a Dutch classical theologian known for being one of the first to treat theological dogmas and non-Christian religions from a historical point of view, rather than the more excepted theological. His first important work was “Historiae de Controversiis quas Pelagius” or “History of Pelagianism Controversy.”
His works of rhetoric were widely popular and were used as textbooks during and after his life. He followed Aristotelian thought and was influenced, not only by Aristotle, but my Cicero and other ancient philosophers.
This 1643 edition of Vossius’s rhetorical works makes mention of important philosophers and writers including Ovid, Juvenal, Hugo Grotius, and Plato.
