Description
AMERICAN MARQUETRY-INLAID TALL-CASE CLOCK, eight-day brass movement with coil gong, housed in broken-arch pediment hood with marquetry inlay to terminals, tombstone-arched glass pane door flanked by chamfered corners with string inlay, and fretwork panels to sides, over rectangular case having tombstone-arch door with urn-form marquetry inlay, supported on plinth base with applied bracket feet; metal dial lettered for retailer "J.E. Caldwell & Co.", with raised Arabic numerals, seconds dial, surmounted by calendar and painted moon dial. Pendulum and weights present. Late 19th/early 20th century. 88 1/2" HOA, 20 1/2" WOA.
(UPDATED 10/12/17) Excellent condition overall, one or two minute losses or popping to inlay. Likely restoration to dials. Pendulum spring broken, otherwise movement in working condition.
