Condition: Very good condition. Typical age toning primarily on margins and issued centerfold. Colored outlines.

This highly attractive steel engraved map of Australia is with large amount of topographical detail along the coastlines while the interior is filled with tables of county names. Named are West Australia, North Australia, South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. Queensland and the Northern Territory are not yet formed. The surrounding vignettes, typical of Tallis, include Natives Bogan and Felix, Australian Parrots and Cockatoo, the expected Kangaroo and Sydney. The map is surrounded by a delicately engraved decorative border. Nicely color outlined political borders complete the map.

John Tallis (1817-1876) was an English cartographic publisher. His company, John Tallis and Company, published views, maps and atlases in London from roughly 1838 to 1851.
