Description
Graphite and green colored pencil drawing on fine wove paper, variation on a study for "Les Belles Realities," attributed* to Rene Magritte (1898-1967). Probably circa 1961-62. Signed, lower right. 7 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Unframed for inspection and shipping.
Provenance: Acquired by the former owner from his good friends, Charles Hathaway and his partner Hubert de Saint Senoch (1913-1983), Paris, sometime after 1965. Bequeathed thereafter to the current owner, circa 1995. Hubert de Saint Senoch was an important French collector (see, for example, Sotheby's sales 1983 and 1992) and presumably acquired the drawing directly from the artist.
