**Originally Listed at $250**
Northern Europe, Viking / Norse culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A fine example of a penannular brooch (sometimes called a fibula), cast from bronze, with a pin wrapped around the ovoid form and two elongated, thin terminals. Dangling from the brooch are three long, screw-shaped, cast bronze rods with six flat, trapezoidal cast bronze pendants hanging from them on thin rings. The penannular style of brooch was originally created in the Celtic British Isles ca. 600 CE and became popular throughout Scandinavia after the Vikings began to have contact with Celtic peoples following their raids along the coasts at the end of the 8th century CE.
