Description
Eva Zeisel, an extremely rare “Zeisel Ware” test piece with a stylized bird painted by Eva Zeisel, Monmouth Pottery, Western Stoneware Company, Eva Zeisel Fine Stoneware, Monmouth, Illinois, circa 1953-1954. The underside with Bette Cooper’s taped yellowed card reading in pencil “Zeisel ware / Many of these Plates are sample patterns never made in a production run.” With the word sample in light pencil. Dia.: 11 in. (28 cm). 1620-105

Note: Bette Cooper, co-author of Monmouth Western Stoneware (1983), was an unofficial archivist for the factory and collected examples of these works, including test pieces, as they came off the line.
