American Pulley Company Salesman's Sample Hand Truck

Item Details

Description

A salesman's sample Hand Truck or Dolly from the American Pulley Company, Philadelphia. The sample dates to the first half of the 20th Century, most likely 1920s or 1930s. It is red-painted steel with solid wheel on one side, spoked wheel on the other (I assume to show alternative choices), and wooden handle ends. It is stamped in the mold "American Pulley Co., Philadelphia, Patent Pending" on the bottom slat. Approximately 12" long (high is standing up) and 4 ¾" across at the handles. And exact replica of what the full-sized hand cart would have looked like, with rivets and cotter pins holding the wheels in place. The Hand Truck is in very good condition. There is some flaking of the paint, mostly on the inside of the arms, wear to the paint on the surface of the wheels, and some wear and chipping to the edge of the wooden handles. But there is no damage to the steel. Very solid and sturdy. This one was probably played with as a toy. The American Pulley Company was in business in Philadelphia during the first half of the 20th century.
