Description
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A lost wax cast bronze spearhead with a long, triangular blade with gentle sloping shoulders, a thick, pronounced mid-rib, and a square tang with a slightly curved tip. A thick projection forms a guard above the blade. The style of the spearhead is probably a variation on the Type III (which has wide variety) from Marlik, a major archaeological site associated with Luristan - a mound that contained at least fifty-three tombs. Within these tombs, researchers found a large number of bronze spearheads, which they have theorized were very popular weapons for Marlik's warriors, who lived in a forested, mountainous region. Size: 11.25" L x 1.75" W (28.6 cm x 4.4 cm)
Provenance: Whisnant Gallery, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, acquired over twenty years ago
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
