Description
Egypt, New Kingdom, Eighteenth Dynasty, ca. 1391 to 1351 BCE. A terracotta seal mold bearing a royal name. Molds like this one were used to make the inscribed base for a faience scarab. Inscribed on this one is an image of the goddess Maat seated upon a wicker basket, holding an ankh. An ostrich feather crown adorns her head and identifies her. A solar disk is positioned above. This grouping represents the throne name of Amenhotep III, which was 'Neb-Maat-Re.' Amenhotep was the husband of Queen Tye, father of Akhenaten, and grandfather of Tutankhamon. Size: 0.8" W x 0.95" H (2 cm x 2.4 cm)
