Description
Circa 1730 brass dial with Roman numerals, domed brass disc in lunette with engraved bird in flight, flanked by cast brass floral scroll work with near matching scroll work in spandrels with women heads, raised chapter ring, with seconds dial above and calendar aperture below center, original brass hands, engraved signature of David Lockwood with unreadable town name below. Brass weight driven English bell strike movement with original weights and pendulum. Case in highly figured mahogany with Queen Anne style stepped flat top bonnet with intaglio carved fret work over ogee and cove molded top, tombstone door with attached 3/4 turned columns with cast brass capitals and plinths and quarter columns at rear, tombstone glazed side lights. Waist with overlapping tombstone form door with stepped molding surround and cross banding, cove molding above and angled flat molding below. Base with four book matched inlays in burled mahogany with cross banded surround over cut-out bracket feet, old cleaned varnish finish, pine secondary wood, 21 1/4 x 10 1/2 x 93" high.
