Description
This lot consists of three unrelated large daguerreotypes.
1) Half plate daguerreotype in wooden frame. American Family of father, mother and three children. The interaction between this close-knit family is special. Left to right: the girl snuggles with her mother, who flashes a reserved smile. The older centers the composition and has his hand upon his mother's shoulder. The youngest child, a boy wearing a dress, is comfortably on his father's lap with his father's hand holding him steady. He rests his little hand on his father's.
2) Quarter plate daguerreotype in oval frame. Hand-colored woman with great skin tones and lovely dress, holding onto a fine chair. Her brooch and a couple of rings on her fingers have been pin-pricked so that they sparkle.
3) Half plate daguerreotype of German children. All three children wear bloomers. The child at left, presumably a boy, holds a wreath. Housed in a passé-partout frame. Label on reverse: "Lichtbild von Emil Tiedemann BREMEN Atelier Riehtweg No. 12 parterre".
4) #3 above accompanied by a cabinet card with 1874 ink. We don't know whether the woman in the cabinet card is depicted in the daguerreotype. It certainly seems possible.
Absentee bidders: this is a box lot, so special packing fees apply. See the shipping terms for details.
