Important French edition. Are collected the pioneering studies of the neuroanatomist and physiologist of Germany on the functions of the brain and its various parts.
New World Encyclopedia: “Gall’s method of “cranioscopy” and his theories were later renamed phrenology by his follower Johann Spurzheim. … Gall's contributions to neurological science were significant. He recognized that emotions were not located in the heart but in the brain and that certain parts of the brain controlled particular emotions and actions. At the time these were revolutionary ideas. The opposition to Gall's ideas can be compared to the earlier opposition to Copernicus' theory that the earth revolved around the sun, since Gall's general concept that psychological functions were localized in the brain proved to have merit, although on a higher level of complexity than he envisioned.”
