238 + [2] ad pp. With a woodcut frontispiece by Grosvenor, portraits of Captains Lewis & Clarke and other woodcuts in the text. (8vo) 18.5x11 cm (7¼ x5¼ "), period speckled calf, gilt ruled spine with morocco label lettered in gilt.

Later reprinting of the original writings on the famous journey, written by Patrick Gass, soldier and valued member of the Lewis and Clark expedition, "...distinguished also for being the first from the expedition to publish an account of the trip. Having lived so long, Gass is one of the best known of the expedition's enlisted men and has had more written about him than any other man in the Corps of Discovery, except for the two captains."

Condition

General wear to binding, glue repair to top corner of front board, front board nearly detached, 1" loss at top of spine; owners' signatures on front endpapers, light to moderate foxing throughout; good.
