GEORGI K. ZHUKOV
(1896 - 1974) Soviet Field Marshall, perhaps the greatest general of World War II, he survived crushing poverty and Stalin's purges to command the Russian armies at the monumental battles of Moscow and Kursk, and in the taking of Berlin. Scarce war-date D.S., 1p. 4to., Kieve, July 16, 1940 and marked "TOP SECRET" at top, a transfer of a battalion political commissar and a military commissar of the 80th Militay Division. Signed in brown indelible pencil at bottom Commander of Troops of the Kiev Military Disctrict, also signed by NIKOLAI VATUTIN (1901–1944), Soviet general and commander of the Southwestern Front, the Voronezh Front during the Battle of Kursk and the 1st Ukrainian Front during the liberation of Kiev, killed by Ukrainian insurgents. Frayed a bit at top, else very good.
