Silk gauze with multi-colored silk threads, with woven application borders and loops at the collar and front, one gilt copper button at the collar. China, late Qing dynasty

This delicate silk gauze Jiagua surcoat shows counted stitch embroidery with eight roundels, each with chrysanthemums and butterflies amidst a dense design of fruit, symbols and flowers. Each sleeve with three smaller roundels. The hem and edges of the sleeves are decorated with terrestrial diagrams rising from turbulent waves churning precious objects above clouds and lishui stripe.

Condition: Good condition with small holes, staining and wear. Few open stitches or loose threads.
