Fine Chinese Works of Art

Gallery Zacke Vienna, founded 1968, celebrates its 50th anniversary: Fine Chinese Works of Art In 2018, it will be 50 years or half a century since Irene Zacke founded Gallery Zacke in Vienna, Austria. Shortly after its inception, the gallery hosted an inaugural exhibition of Fine Chinese Works of Art. These were the days when a juvenile Irene Zacke and her husband Wolfmar had the vision that through a series of exhibitions and related publications, the profoundness of Chinese culture could be brought closer to an Austrian audience of young post-war art lovers and collectors. Since Zacke was the only place to go for Chinese art in Austria, it soon became a crucial institution for the preservation of Chinese cultural heritage. It is hard to say how many important works of art that reside in major private or public collections in China and the rest of the world were once discovered in an attic, a cellar or some other sort of hideous place by members of the Zacke family in Vienna. But we are pretty sure the number must be in the thousands. And so, over time, finding treasures in places where no one would imagine them became a substantial part of the gallery’s DNA up until this day. A fact that becomes even clearer when one looks at the some of the consignments from this auction catalogue: - A collection of Chinese jades, recovered from an 18th century curio box, forgotten by the heirs of a passionate collector - A collection of Chinese textiles, found in three boxes in a storage vault, untouched ever since they were imported from China half a century ago - A group of Chinese jewelry, as discovered in the estate of a Jeweler - A group of paintings and Thangka, from an old estate, where we removed newspapers dating from the late 1940s that served as packing material Good luck in bidding!
