A Chinese Apricot Ground Crane Roundel Embroidery
Qing dynasty (1644-1912), an apricot ground silk embroidered panel probably from a woman's surcoat, very finely rendered crane holding peaches in a roundel surrounded by auspicious symbols of clouds, bats, peaches, and Buddhist swastikas symbolizing happiness, below tossed in the waves of the sea are Buddhist treasure motifs such as the canopy, wheel of law and endless knot, panel is bordered by a dark blue, light blue and white embroidered band of flowers and bats, framed with a silver background, not examined outside of the frame.
Textile size 37 17 1/2 in.; Framed dimensions 40 1/2 x 21 in.
