Description
A Near Eastern bronze amulet of a goat, c. 1000 - 600 BC, with large circular eyes, curved horns and groups of three parallel ridges around the neck and mid-section, circular suspension loop at shoulders. H: 2 1/8 (5.3cm), L: 2 1/4 in (5.8cm). Well-preserved and nicely patinated. Cf. Moorey, Catalogue of Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum, (Oxford, 1971), nos. 422 for a similar examples; Ex estate of Seward Kennedy, New York. Mr. Kennedy worked for decades as a lawyer for the Mobil Corporation, and acquired his collection throughout decades of travel beginning in the 1950's.
