Silver Gao Buddha Shrine Box, 18th - 19th Century

Item Details

Description

Silver and gilt Gao box from the 18th -19th century. This Buddhist prayer box is decorated with an 8 armed deity with many faces on the front. Two handles are fitted against each side. The back is marked with a double vajra. It can be opened. A prayer bundle is inside. The metal has not been tested.
Dimensions are 6 inches tall X 4 5/8 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.

From a San Diego, California estate. Collected in New York and San Francisco in 1980s.

Condition
