Description
AMERICAN PIECED QUILTS, LOT OF TWO, comprising one with a house/cabin design made with polychrome fabrics, in 72 blocks alternating with plain white block; large daisy or sunflower design in alternate blocks; and one with "Endless Chain/Rose Dream/True Lover's Knot" design in blue and white cotton solids; "DES stamped in one back corner and "1-DEB" stamped in another corner. Likely made in the area of Dante, Virginia. Circa 1930. 70" x 88" and 59" x 74".
Fair condition with good color retention overall, no visible holes or tears, one with small area of loss to stitching at binding, otherwise scattered stains, some fading on back, and toning.
Provenance: From a private Pennsylvania collection.
Catalogue Note: Quilts were collected by Deaconess Edith A. Booth, who was a missionary at the Honeybranch Mission in Dante, Virginia in the 1930s.
