Description
SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN STAVE-TYPE WOVEN-SPLINT FIELD BASKET, white oak, oblong form with X-wrapped rim, an open handle at each end, and rectangular open-weave bottom with unusual crossed runners having small square feet. Original dry natural surface with excellent patina. Late 19th/first quarter 20th century. 10 1/2" HOA, 20" x 26 1/2" rim.
Very good overall condition, several losses to rim wraps, minor losses/breaks to lower corners, old wire added to support runners.
