Description
**Originally Listed at $600**

Africa, Nigeria, Ibibio peoples, early 20th century CE. This gorgeous painted wood mask, with its delicate features and elaborate hairstyle, will be a striking conversation piece in any location. It shows a woman's face, with black paint perhaps indicating tattoos or more temporary decoration. This would have been used in entertaining masquerades, and may represent a bride - the facial markings and the elaborate hairstyle suggest the transformations that Ibibio brides undergo before their marriages. Size: 7" W x 10" H (17.8 cm x 25.4 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private Poolos collection / Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL
