Description
China, Tang to Song (Sung) Dynasty, ca. 618 to 1200 CE. Striking carved stone head of a Chinese dignitary. Sandstone carved in lifelike features with upturned eyes, subtle smile, cheeks in raised relief, drilled corners of his mouth and dimpled chin. He sports a black cap showing slight band at lower edge. Probably once part of a frieze, now custom mounted on fine quality stand. Size: 5.75" W x 10.5" H (14.6 cm x 26.7 cm), on stand measures 6" W x 13.25" H (15.2 cm x 33.7 cm)
