**First Time At Auction**
Egypt, Ptolemaic to Roman periods, ca. 332 to 30 BCE. A pretty, mold-made head from a statue of the goddess Isis-Hathor. Her face has classically-influenced features and her coiffure is large and elaborately depicted. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.9" L x 1.8" W x 2.9" H (4.8 cm x 4.6 cm x 7.4 cm); height on stand: 4.85" (12.3 cm)
During the Ptolemaic period, Isis-Hathor, Serapis, and Harpocrates formed the Triad of Alexandria, and in 2011 the Egyptian office of archaeology announced that they had found the ruins of a Ptolemaic temple containing many similar figures to this one, made in vast workshops from dark red-brown Nile silt. They were made to be given as offerings.
