Audubon Bien Edition, John James Audubon (American, 1785-1851), "Purple Grackle or Common Crow Blackbird," Plate 221, No. 1-4 from "The Birds of America (1827-1838). Chromolithograpy by Julius Bien (American, 1826-1909), printed by Roe Lockwood and Son, New York, 1858. Print depicts a male and female purple grakle on a cornstalk. Inscribed below image lower left "Drawn from Life by J.J. Audubon, F,R,S.F,L,S," upper left "No. 1-4", lower middle "Purple Grakle or Common Crow Blackbird Quiscalus Versicolor Vieill. Male 1 Female 2. Maize or Indian Corn Tea Mays" lower right "Chromolithy. by J. Bien , New York 1860," upper right "Plate 221" to upper right. Sheet approximately 39.375" x 26.5".
