Description
1590 ENORMOUS LAW Corpus Juris Civilis Justinian Jurisprudence Godefroy Binding
VERY RARE & FAMOUS edition with Rare Binding!
Famous Godefroy edition of the Corpus Juris Civilis from the late 16th-century!
Denis Godefroy (1549 – 1622) was a French jurist.
The Corpus Juris (or Iuris) Civilis ("Body of Civil Law") is the modern name for a collection of fundamental works in jurisprudence, issued from 529 to 534 by order of Justinian I, Eastern Roman Emperor. It is also sometimes referred to as the Code of Justinian, although this name belongs more properly to the part titled Codex Justinianus.
Justinian I (c. 482 – 565), traditionally known as Justinian the Great and also Saint Justinian the Great in the Eastern Orthodox Church, was a Byzantine (East Roman) emperor from 527 to 565. During his reign, Justinian sought to revive the empire's greatness and reconquer the lost western half of the historical Roman Empire. Justinian's rule constitutes a distinct epoch in the history of the Later Roman empire, and his reign is marked by the ambitious but only partly realized renovatio imperii, or "restoration of the Empire".
