Description
Black ink drawing on wove paper, "Chat," attributed* to Tsuguharu Foujita (1886-1968). Signed. 4 1/2 x 3 5/8 inches. Excellent condition. Unframed for inspection and shipping.
Provenance: Ex-collection Colonel Norman van Meter, who may have met the artist sometime between 1930 and 1945. Colonel van Meter presumably acquired a number of souvenir drawings (all cats) from Foujita while visiting Paris in the early 1950's. Van Meter was a prominent collector (see Parke-Bernet Galleries sale, February 1954, NYC) who was a long-time friend of the former owner, now deceased. This drawing and others came directly from Colonel van Meter's collection, according to the former owner's personal papers.
