Description
Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 5th century BCE. A sleek black-glazed terracotta vessel, in a characteristic alabastron profile, featuring a flat and stable footed base, a slender piriform body with two tab-shaped handles, and a very narrow neck that leads to a miniscule mouth and a large flared rim. This form originated in 11th century BCE Egypt, and was named an alabastron because such containers were originally carved from alabaster. Size: 1.75" W x 5.125" H (4.4 cm x 13 cm).

Condition
Surface wear commensurate with age, minor nicks and scratches, minor wear to tab handles, and interior earthen deposits. Two TL-test drill holes are visible, one on the base of the foot and the other at the base of the neck.
