Description
A large Roman bronze fitting in the form of a goose, c. 2nd - 3rd Century AD, perhaps from a chariot, the L-shaped base with holes for mounting and the curving handle in the form of a goose’s head with stippling for feathers and detailed eyes and beak. Quite substantial with light deposits over a deep chocolate brown patina. H: 6 in (15.2 cm). Nicely set in a removable custom mount. Ex New Jersey private antiquities collection.
