Description

BRUNIE / SARAWAK TAJAUR cast bronze mid 19th c. 20” high 13” dia. Collected in the 60’s, this exquisite bronze cast jar (tajaur) is decorated with stylized birds- lizards - dragons - lions - fish and floral designs. Brunei craftsmen were famous for casting bronze cannons, kettles and gongs but rarely jars. Tajaur of this quality indicates the wealth and status of the owner. These jars were also used as a form of currency.
