Description
JAMES RIVER, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, ovoid form with slightly arched tab-like handles and a collared rounded rim. Unusual boldly brushed cobalt scrolling floral decoration on each side, additional cobalt to top of handles. Probably Samuel Wilson and/or associates, Richmond or Henrico, Virginia. 1817-1850. 11 1/4" H, 6 1/2" D rim.
Several chips to handles, one being moderate, small Y-shape hairline to body, no other damage.
