Description
From the Collection of Rita Ford Music Boxes. This antique music box was made in Switzerland circa 1885 and is attributed to the firm Charles Paillard and Co. The Orchastral Style music box is considered to be rare as the music is accompanied by six tuned bells, a drum and castagnette. This wonderful piece has the added attraction of combining the music box with the automata as the six bells are being performed by Three Mandarin Characters. As they accompany the music they turn their heads from side to side. This music box plays 12 airs on a 17" long cylinder. Although it is lacking its original tune card. All indications point to Charles Paillard. The case is magnificent and was made to the highest quality also supporting the overall quality of the piece. Matching Carpathian Elm to the lid, the case front and both sides are accented with Satinwood and Tulipwood inlay. The center lid inlay is quite beautiful with brass, Ebonywood, Elmwood and Mother of Pearl with no losses whatsoever. The case bottom sits atop a black lacquered pedestal also accented with Tulipwood. This piece has recently undergone a complete restoration to both the case and movement. Condition: (Excellent).Dimensions: 37" x 16" x 12-1/4".
