19th century Japanese hanging scroll painted with ink on paper with classic landscape in scholar’s taste of water and rocky outcrops with trees in the foreground, stone stairs leading to a temple, and distant mountains in the background. Very unusual feature is a frame drawn around the painting, and the area outside the frame being stamped with red paste seals - 39 of them altogether, all appear to be different. Excellent painting, beautiful brushwork and ink washes depicting leaves and rock textures. Silk brocade mounts, bone scroll ends, some yellowing and slight creases to the paper, very nice feel of age. Lengthy inscription in ink followed by red paste seal of the artist. Inscription dates the painting to March of 1868 and identifies the painter as Tamayuki. Excellent painting for tea ceremony. Scroll size 77x15 1/4 inches, painting size 51x14 1/4 inches.
