Description
Central Asia, Bactrian, ca. late 3rd to early 2nd millennium BCE. A stunning carved chlorite cosmetic container of a lunate form with panels of varying zig-zag patterns adorning both faces (front and back), the base and sides with incised hatched decoration, surmounted by double tubular openings. Impressive for its near perfect half-moon shape, the painstaking effort the incised decoration must have required, and its marvelous condition. Size: 3.875" W x 2.875" H (9.8 cm x 7.3 cm)
