Description
Standard glaze stein decorated with a pair of young African Americans enjoying what appears to be ice cream, the work of Bruce Horsfall in 1895. Marks include the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 656 and Mr. Horsfall’s incised monogram. The unmarked pewter lid was most likely created at Rookwood by E.H. Asano and/or Kataro Shirayamadani. The top of the lid has a hops theme and the thumb lift is a dragon. There is fine overall crazing, a long V shape crack that emanates from the bottom, a crack in the handle and a couple of scratches in the glaze. Height of the ceramic portion only is 9 3/8 inches with the overall height being 12 1/4 inches.
