Description
Tall Newcomb College carved and painted vase in transitional mat glaze done, circa 1912, by Sadie Irvine. Standing 10 1/8 inches tall, the vase features three sprays of blue gloxinia flowers which encircle the vase. Impressed marks include the Newcomb College logo, JM for potter Joseph Meyer, and the letter B for Buff clay body typically seen on semi-matt glaze pieces. Sadie Irvine’s incised monogram is present as well. What may be a date code in black slip is smudged but the B (Buff Clay) code dates the vase to 1910 and 1912. Faint crazing with nice size and nice carving.
