(1882 - 1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the "New Deal" programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. T.L.S. as president on White House letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Washington, June 1, 1944 [five days prior to D-Day], to Joseph Curran, president of the National Maritime Union of America. In full: "... I am deeply touched by that beautifully inscrolled resolution adopted by the National Maritime Union at its convention last year. This expression of confidence in my leadership is particularly gratifying to me. You and the members of your Union have my warm thanks and appreciation for the loyal spirit which the resolution evidences..." Roosevelt signs at the conclusion in black ink. The letter shows original mailing folds, else very good.
