Description
An attractive Villanovan impasto krater, 8th Century BC, of rarer form, the body sharply carinated and decorated with an intricate band of incised cruciform panels, the wishbone handles attached at the bottom of the widely flared mouth and the shoulder and are lightly textured with angled ridges. An attractive vessel with well-preserved surfaces showing vertical burnishing beneath light deposits. H: 9 1/4 in (23.5cm). Featured in 'Etruscan and Villanovan Pottery: A Catalogue of Italian Ceramics from Midwestern Collections' by Richard D. DePuma, 1971, (Item #9) and exhibited at the University of Iowa Museum of Art from March 17th to April 30th, 1971.
