Description
Mardi Gras- King's Short Sword, probably Comus, late 19th/early 20th c., gilt bronze with a celluloid handle, mounted with large rhinestones, with a green velvet covered rhinestone mounted scabbard, with an original purple, green, and gold ribbon. Sword- H.- 21 1/2 in., W.- 5 1/2 in., D.- 2 1/2 in. Note: There are examples of both kings of Rex and Comus with similar swords, one in the collection of the Louisiana State Museum. Provenance: The Estate of Sidney J. Mazarat III, New Orleans, Louisiana.
