WRIGHT ORVILLE: (1871-1948) American Aviator who, with his brother Wilbur, invented and built the world's first successful airplane and made the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight on 17th December 1903. D.S., Orville Wright, being a signed cheque, Dayton, Ohio, 25th September 1944. The partially printed cheque, completed in another hand, is drawn on The Winters National Bank & Trust Co., and is made payable to Brown Auto Sales Co., for the sum of $31.51. A perforated bank cancellation only very slightly affects a few letters of Wright’s signature. VG
