Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jama Coaque (Jamacoaque) culture, ca. 500 CE. A beautiful and well made grotesque mask of a figure with projecting tongue and tusk-like horny projections from the sides of the cheeks. The figure has small eyes and wears a nose ring. Originaly pigment remains in many places, bright teal, yellow, and red. This mask is probably a transformative figure, associated with shamanism. Size: 5.75" W x 5.75" H (14.6 cm x 14.6 cm)
